May and June book club changes and author guests!
We have changed the Book Club schedule for May and June. Originally we were scheduled to discuss Henry Kisor’s “What’s that pig outdoors: Memoir of Deafness” (nonfiction/memoir) (BARD/NLS: Braille: BR 08392; BARD: DB 31492). However, we were able to get author Henry Kisor to join us if we moved our discussion of his book to June. Therefore, we are still having the May 23rd book club but it’s now going to be a more general discussion of books and an informal getting-to-know-you session of the book club. You can register for the May 23rd Zoom Meeting by clicking here.
Then on June 27th at 7:00 pm (central time) we will have our Questions and Answers session with Henry Kisor. (A link to register for the June meeting will be on our website soon).
The book we were scheduled to read and discuss for June will be put back on the list to read and discuss at a later date, “Deaf Republic” by Ilya Kaminsky (Poems). (BARD/NLS: Braille: BR 22694, BARD: DB 94920).
In July we’re back to our schedule of books for 2023 and we will have another author as guest when we welcome Georgina Kleege to talk about her memoir “Blind Rage: Letters to Helen Keller” by Georgina Kleege (nonfiction/memoir) (BARD/NLS: Braille: BR 16939, BARD: DB 63900). That July Book Club with Georgina Kleege will be on Tuesday, July 25th at 7:00 pm (Central Time). A link to register for that Book Club will be on our website soon as well.
As always, everyone is welcome to Book Club and we enjoy welcoming new and familiar faces for each Zoom book club (every fourth Tuesday of the month, year-round). Book Clubs are always captioned and typically run 1.5 to 2 hours. If you are interested in more information about the book clubs, please visit the Book Club page on our website (where you can see what we have read and what we plan to read for the rest of 2023). You can also email Laura Hagemann social@hlaatc.org for more information.
