Thank you for June book club and next book
HLAA-TC Book Club met Tuesday June 25th on Zoom when author Claudia Marseille joined us to talk about her memoir “But You Look So Normal: Lost and Found in a Hearing World.” The book was just released in May and if you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, our book club was raving about it (with good reason, it’s great).
After having read a lot of memoirs about hearing loss, the way that Claudia was able to so poignantly and beautifully capture her struggles growing up with a severe hearing loss will stay with us for a long time (in the best way). It was a great (and hopefully accessible) book club, despite the awkward Zoom AI captioning misspelling “deaf” as “death, dead” and several other awkward misspellings (thank you, book club member Lynne Kinsey for pointing out that goofy computer gaffe… it’s like the title of another great hearing loss memoir that we’ve read—and had the author— “Life After Deaf” by Noel Holston).
The July Book and Book Club is listed below (we will have the author join us)!
JULY 2024: “The Dolphin House” by Audrey Schulman BARD/NLS: DB 110165. WITH SPECIAL GUEST AUTHOR AUDREY SCHULMAN. Tuesday, JULY 23, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. [ZOOM-Register Here]. Amazon Book Summary: Based on the true story of the 1965 “dolphin house” experiment, this spellbinding novel captures the tenor of the social experiments of the 1960s in award-winning author Audrey Schulman’s tightly paced and evocative style.
Thank you again to Claudia for graciously spending the evening with us and sharing your touching and poignant story that struck a chord with all of us.
A more detailed summary of book club with links and information shared will be posted within the next few days.
