World Hearing Day is March 3rd
Each year the World Health Organization (WHO) declares March 3rd as “World Hearing Day.” The idea behind this day is to bring awareness to deafness and hearing loss.
Key messages for World Hearing Day 2020 (from The World Health Organization’s World Hearing Day website):
- At all life stages, communication and good hearing health connect us to each other, our communities, and the world.
- For those who have hearing loss, appropriate and timely interventions can facilitate access to education, employment and communication.
- Globally, there is lack of access to interventions to address hearing loss, such as hearing aids.
- Early intervention should be made available through the health systems
The WHO has an app called “hearWHO” that allows you to use your smartphone (both iOS and Android compatible) to test your hearing. The WHO advocates everyone test their hearing and offers many resources and literature about how different parts of the world are offering various advances in how hearing is tested and maintained.
This has been a special edition of “Hearing News” to celebrate World Hearing Day. As always, if you have something you would like to see covered in an upcoming Hearing News segment or in a “Live Well With Hearing Loss” 2020 conference update, please comment on this blog or connect with us on Facebook.
